Cargo is a subtle poetical and political work which was part of The Performance Arcade, a live art event that attracts 40,000 people every year to Wellington Waterfront, overseen by artistic director Sam Trubridge.

It focuses on the dynamic relationship between the city audience and its harbour. Cargo suspends a single shipping container from its familiar journey (on a ship), floating it alone in the waters of Wellington harbour. Eliciting both attention and tension. Cargo brings focus to the harbor as a site of arrival and departure, bringing consideration to ideas of receiving, hosting and negotiating the arrival of the unknown.
