‘Freight 1.0’ is a first in 'Freight' series, very powerful project, with a strong spatial, performance and sonic presence. It takes the subject of human migration, addressing the audience with their own personal relationship with the unknown. The sheer architectural scale of the work created out of 8 shipping containers, along with the sonic soundscape and captivating performance, provokes a range of sensory and emotional responses and experiences, both personal and collective.

The work was created in March 2014 in collaboration with composer and sound artist Russell Scoones for the Performance Arcade and performed on Wellington’s waterfront.

‘Whilst stimulated by the powerful affect, I felt my curious fascination slowly turned toward unease, disgust, and shame. Shame at a soulless human condition, and the cool self-believing determination of human acts that persist, irrespective of value to fellow human life and other than human life forms. The work drew me in to a condition of abjection that I - and perhaps many - prefer to not encounter and tend to deny: the violence of life and forms for the social organisation of life, in the name of a belief, conviction or intent.’
